Statement on Whipps Cross Delay

Yesterday we heard an update from the Secretary of State for Health regarding the review of New Hospital Programme.

I absolutely devastated to learn that that Whipps Cross Hospital will not be rebuilt until the 2030s.

The new Labour Government had no option but to review the hospital building programme upon finding that the last Government had given false promises and had not set aside enough money to build the hospital programme. I welcome the Health Secretary’s commitment to rebuilding the NHS, finally securing the much-needed investment for this programme.

Waltham Forest desperately needs a new hospital. Each year, the cost of not rebuilding the hospital for the NHS, patients, staff and residents grows higher and each year the negative impact on the wellbeing and health of our borough worsens.

Getting Whipps Cross Hospital rebuilt remains my greatest priority. I will be asking for a meeting with the Health Secretary to discuss the hospital’s future and will work with the Leader of Redbridge and our MPs to campaign at every opportunity for a new Whipps Cross and to ensure that the local health facilities our community relies on will receive the investment they need.

With best wishes,

Cllr Grace Williams, Leader of Waltham Forest Council.
